How Can I Help?

SEASONAL TIP: Pick up dog poop and throw it in the trash. Some may think it's natural, but the bacteria inside can hurt our creeks and lakes.

Over the past couple years, we've been partnering with the @mnzoo to make use of the invasive carp and goldfish we remove from our lakes. Many animals at the zoo eat fish, and it seems the brown bears on Russia's Grizzly Coast exhibit really like them! This shot shows how the bear keepers use our fish as an enrichment tool for them.

By removing these invasive fish, we're allowing more space for native fish like bluegill and bass to live in our lakes. It also keeps the lakes healthier, which helps native water plants to thrive. And, it provides a great local food source for hungry zoo animals!

Bringing your dogs to the summer picnic or lake barbeque? Of course you are, they're the life of the party. But, what isn't so fun is their poo. Your hosts don't want it left in the backyard, so why would you leave it behind on a trail during a walk? Pick it up and throw it out. You'll keep the creek healthier too.
