Web Privacy Statement

Nine Mile Creek Watershed District takes the protection of the privacy of individuals’ personal information very seriously. NMCWD manages such information in accordance with the state Data Practices Act, Minnesota Statutes chapter 13. (Find the NMCWD Policies and Procedures for Public Access to Documents here.) This privacy statement discloses how NMCWD gathers and uses information from its website.

Collecting and Using Information

When you visit the NMCWD website, the server that hosts the site collects and stores certain information about your visit. The information does not identify you personally, but consists of the following:

  • Your internet domain (for example, “xcompany.com” if you use a private internet access account, or “yourschool.edu” if you connect from a university’s domain);
  • Your IP address (an IP address is a number that is automatically assigned to your computer whenever you are surfing the web) from which you access the NMCWD website;
  • The type of browser and operating system used to access our site;
  • The date and time you access our site;
  • The pages you visit; and
  • The address of the website you came from if you linked to our website from another website.

NMCWD uses this information to help staff make the site more useful to visitors — to learn about what information was viewed, the level of demand and the topics of interest.

Personal Information

Except where specified, you do not need to provide personally identifiable information to visit or download information from the NMCWD website. If you choose to provide personal information, for example by subscribing to a NMCWD email list or submitting comments through an online form, information will only be used for the purposes you authorize. However, because the Data Practices Act applies to all information in NMCWD’s possession, data you submit will be treated in the same way as written forms of communication. In many instances it will be considered public information available to the public upon request. NMCWD may withhold personal information from disclosure only to the extent permitted by law.

Cookies

Cookies are small files that a site or its service provider transfers to your computer’s hard drive through your web browser that enables the site’s or service provider’s systems to recognize your browser and capture and remember certain information. NMCWD uses cookies to compile aggregate data about site traffic and site interactions in order to offer better site experiences and tools in the future. You can choose to have your computer warn you each time a cookie is being sent, or you can choose to turn off all cookies. You do this through the settings for your browser (such as Internet Explorer).

Third-Party Disclosure

NMCWD does not sell, trade or otherwise transfer to outside parties any personally identifiable information you provide, though the information is provided also to NMCWD’s website-hosting provider and other parties who provide services related to the operation of the NMCWD website. These parties agree to keep the information gathered confidential.  NMCWD may also release your information when necessary to comply with law, enforce site policies or protect ours or others’ rights, property or safety.

Non-personally identifiable visitor information may be provided (typically in aggregated form) to other parties to improve website functionality, design and usability.

NMOnlineWD does not include or offer third-party products or services on its website.
