The Nine Mile Creek Watershed District is approximately 50 square miles and encompasses the land area draining to Nine Mile Creek. We serve the residents, property-owners and visitors of the cities in our district: Bloomington, Eden Prairie, Edina, Hopkins, Minnetonka, and Richfield.

Every one lives in a watershed, and we all have a role in protecting our water resources. Small and incremental actions can add up to big effects on the health of our lakes and creeks.
9 Mile Creek Discovery Point
9 Mile Creek Discovery Point
Discovery Point is our headquarters and a unique educational facility. Visitors learn best practices in water management and conservation in a wooded setting. The 5.3 acre, wooded site connects to walking trails and a wetland.

On a recent program at the Minneapolis Area Realtors office, Education & Outreach Coordinator Gael got to meet one of the founders of Earth Day, Bryce Hamilton!
Bryce Hamilton was part of a 9 person staff tasked with spreading the word about the first Earth Day (April 22, 1970) by Senator Gaylord Nelson. Mr. Hamilton was responsible for helping high school classrooms join in the national Environmental Teach-In movement.

We are planning to conduct a prescribed burn at Discovery Point on Wednesday, April 24 on the 5 acre restoration site surrounding the building.

Prescribed burns are used to clear away dry brush and dead plant material to limit the risk of wildfires. Prescribed burns return nutrients to the soil and help control invasive plants. They are conducted by professionals and planned according to weather and wind direction.
