    The Nine Mile Creek Watershed District is approximately 50 square miles and encompasses the land area draining to Nine Mile Creek. We serve the residents, property-owners and visitors of the cities in our district: Bloomington, Eden Prairie, Edina, Hopkins, Minnetonka, and Richfield.

    9 Mile Creek Discovery Point

    Discovery Point is our headquarters and a unique educational facility. Visitors learn best practices in water management and conservation in a wooded setting. The 5.3 acre, wooded site connects to walking trails and a wetland.

Are you shopping on Black Friday or Small Business Saturday? Keep on the lookout for oversalting in front of buildings! While salt is necessary to keep shoppers safe, piles of salt like in this picture are not going to melt ice any faster; it will just make more pollution. Ask those businesses if they have a Smart Salt certified snow company; this MPCA certification teaches contractors how to correctly use salt. Learn more at https://linktr.ee/9milecreek

Thanks to Cheryl Larson for this awesome bench! After collecting over 500 pounds of plastic bags, she sent them to Trex for recycling as part of their community challenge. For meeting her goal, she got a bench made out of this recycled plastic and graciously donated it to us. Stop by and enjoy fall from our new back patio bench!

Thanks to the 4th grade classes at Normandale Hills Elementary for their work in the raingarden yesterday! We tried to get out before the rain to collect seeds, pull weeds, and transplant plants growing in the wrong spot. We gathered seeds from ironweed, butterfly weed, turtlehead, swamp milkweed, blazingstar, and hyssop! These will be propagated at Discovery Point over the winter, and then planted in this and other gardens in the spring.

Even though it's been raining a lot, you should still go out and clear debris from stormdrains! Clearning the leaves and trash off the top of the stormdrains can help prevent localized flooding, and keep pollution out of our waterways. #adoptadrain

With all the rain this morning, staff went to the new Bristol/Mavelle Park basin in Edina to see how it was working. It's working exactly as intended! All the rain from the surrounding area was directed into the basin and will filter into the sand and soil over the next day. It may look flooded, but this method is much better for the creek than sending all that water directly down the stormdrains.
