Getting ready for fall means adopting a drain! While you're at it, plan to rake the leaves out of the street too! This will help keep all those extra nutrients from washing down stormdrains into lakes and creeks.

Now that the weather is slightly cooler consider planting some native flowers this fall. Fall is often a better time for planting anyway because of cooler temperatures and more rain (let's hope we get some rain soon!)

Harmful algae blooms can happen even into the fall if there is hot, dry weather. Always check with your city or park for closures before swimming. As of late August, Lake Cornelia had blue-green algae counts exceeding the World Health Organization levels for moderate probability of adverse health effects. You can't always tell if a bloom is harmful just by looking, so when in doubt, stay out!
