Did you know the Nine Mile Creek Watershed District has fens in its wetland inventory? Fens are some of the most biodiverse wetlands in Minnesota! They are fed by groundwater which carries a variety of nutrients to harbor many unique plants.

The District has identified some fens and other wetlands for protection. Both protection and restoration will be key to ensure they continue to be great wildlife refuges in our highly urbanized watershed.

Remember to mow grass in towards your lawn so green clippings don't fast track to our lakes and creek. These nutrients fuel algae growth. #GreenLawnsNotGreenLakes

Thanks to the help of our volunteers. we cleared a large chunk of garlic mustard yesterday!

As we have eliminated many invasives in the understory of the Cardinal Creek trail, more native plants start popping up. We saw Jack-in-the-pulpit and Solomon's seal for the first time!
