SEASONAL TIP: Pick up dog poop and throw it in the trash. Some may think it's natural, but the bacteria inside can hurt our creeks and lakes.

Staff and volunteers spent a chilly morning collecting loosestrife beetles. These beetles eat an invasive plant called purple loosestrife; we released them around the watershed where we noticed increased populations of the plant. Good luck in your new home little beetles!

Staff had a blast on a macroinvertebrate field trip with Edina High School students to Nine Mile Creek last week. We found lots of damselfly larva, crayfish, and even a small painted turtle!

Are you curious about learning how to best maintain your lawn? Are you planning on applying fertilizer but not sure what kind or how much to use? Testing your soil and knowing the amount of each nutrient that is needed makes it easier to find the right fertilizer and apply it in the correct amounts.

We are excited to announce that the NMCWD is expanding our soil testing program watershed-wide after two successful pilot years. We will continue to partner with the U of M Soil Testing Laboratory for sample analysis.

For more information and to sign up for this program, visit https://www.ninemilecreek.org/soil-testing/ or click the link in our bio.

Thanks to a resident on south Lake Cornelia for this fun video! An otter sitting on a dock, and investigating some swan buoys. While not very common in suburbia, we have seen otters around the watershed before, especially along Nine Mile Creek. What a treat!

Take a guess at the bird’s egg! 🐦🥚

The answer is just below:

At our discovery point, we have installed nesting boxes to help boost local bird populations. We report our findings (like these precious eggs) to the Blue Bird Recovery Project. Hoping that these little ones will thrive and fledge!

ANSWER: If you guessed Chickadee eggs, you guessed right!
