The Spring 2027 Lawns to Legumes grant application is open! 🌸Lawns to Legumes is a Minnesota-wide program that awards reimbursement-based funding of up to $400 for creating pollinator habitat in your outdoor space with native plants. 🌸Why plant for pollinators? Minnesota is home to over 500 native bee species, along with many butterflies, moths, and other pollinators. These creatures are essential to ecosystem health — but many have faced population declines. Lawns to Legumes helps reverse this trend by creating pollinator-friendly plantings across the state. ⏰ Apply by November 30 for a chance to receive a Spring 2027 grant. Learn more and apply at bluethumb.org

We are proud to be a sponsor of the 2026 Salt Symposium! It will take place on October 27 – 28, 2026; 8am - 4pm online. The 2026 Salt Symposium marks an exciting new chapter in one of the nation’s leading forums on chloride reduction, winter maintenance, and freshwater protection. Now hosted by the University of Minnesota Cold Climate Stormwater Center of Excellence (CCSCoE), the Symposium continues its long-standing mission of bringing together researchers, public agencies, industry leaders, educators, and practitioners to advance innovative, science-based solutions for managing salt use in cold climates. Building on more than two decades of collaboration and leadership established by Fortin Consulting, the Freshwater Society, and Bolton & Menk, the 2026 Salt Symposium will expand opportunities for research, training, and cross-sector collaboration focused on protecting infrastructure, water resources, and community safety while designing a lower salt future.

Pollinators enjoying an amazing native prairie habitat! One of our project goals for the Lynmar Basin in Edina was to enhance natural resources, including improving pollinator habitat. This video shows that even years later this project is exceeding this goal.

Peggy Kvam retired from our Board of Managers after six years of service. Peggy was first appointed to the board in September of 2020, at a uniquely challenging time. She began her service during the COVID-19 pandemic, when board meetings were held entirely online. Even so, Peggy approached the work with commitment and a genuine willingness to learn, serve, and contribute. She served as Treasurer since 2022. Peggy’s commitment to clean water and community service also predates her time on the board. Before her appointment, she participated in the district’s work as a cost-share grant recipient, completed the Minnesota Water Stewards program, and remained active in her community in other service roles. Thank you Peggy, and best of luck on the next adventure!
