District finalizes AIS Rapid Response Plan

AIS Rapid Response Plan

District Board of Managers recently approved the Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Rapid Response Plan. In the Plan, District staff lays out the roles of various entities in the event a new AIS infestation occurs in one of our lakes. This will help mobilize monitoring and management strategies more quickly and efficiently, in the hopes of reducing the infestation before it becomes unmanagemeable.

This Plan will help achieve goals and objectives laid out in our 10 year Water Management Plan regarding AIS, including:
• Conducting periodic inventories and assessments of AIS in NMCWD waterbodies
• Developing targeted AIS management strategies
• Working with agencies and local stakeholders to manage invasive species (Water Management Plan: Table 5-2, Objective 2, Policy 4, Actions A, B, and C).
