Let us know!
Throughout the year, volunteer opportunities are developed and are created. For example, an Eagle Scout from Hopkins built an information Kiosk near the Nine Mile Creek. As a volunteer, you can participate as you like for activities. Below is a sample of voluteer activities that the District have available. For more information on District volunteer opportunities, please feel free to contact Claire Bleser, Education and Outreach Coordinator.
Adopt-A-Highway
Volunteers have recently participated in the clean-up of our adopted highway segment in the District. The section is along Highway 62 between Gleason Ave and Highway 100 along Nine Mile Creek
Annual Fall Tour
Every Fall, the District sponsors a field trip/bus tour highlighting some of the many projects that were completed that year. Following the tour, an expert on a water/environment-related issue provides a presentation. Interested citizens are encouraged to attend.
Citizen Advisory Committee
Since 1982, members of the community have been involved in a Citizen Advisory Committee (CAC). CAC members are our eyes in the community, noticing and reporting threats to water quality. They also take part in various volunteer and educational opportunities.
Creek and Lake Monitoring
Several community members have been actively monitoring lakes and creek reaches. The monitoring helps the District identify the health of these waters. To learn more about the Lake montoring program, please visit the Citizen Assisted lake Monitoring Program (CAMP) from the Metropolitan Council. For more information on creek monitoring, visit the Volunteer Stream Monitoring Partnership from Carver County.
Earth Day Clean-Up
Every year, close to Earth Day, citizen from all over the district come together to clean a segment of the Nine Mile Creek. It is unbelievable how much trash can be found!
Nine Mile Creek Storm Drain Markers
Volunteers apply small plastic disks that are applied on neighborhood storm drains with literature delivered to nearby homes explaining that the markers help prevent pollution and keep our waters clean.
