Even though it's been raining a lot, you should still go out and clear debris from stormdrains! Clearning the leaves and trash off the top of the stormdrains can help prevent localized flooding, and keep pollution out of our waterways.

With all the rain this morning, staff went to the new Bristol/Mavelle Park basin in Edina to see how it was working. It's working exactly as intended! All the rain from the surrounding area was directed into the basin and will filter into the sand and soil over the next day. It may look flooded, but this method is much better for the creek than sending all that water directly down the stormdrains.

Thanks to the students from Edina High School who helped gather and identify macroinvertebrates from 9 Mile Creek. The diversity and number of these 'water bugs' they collect help us understand how healthy the creek is. Also, thanks to the Riverwatch program of Hennepin County.
