There’s still time to enter our 2027 Calendar Photo Contest!
Have a photo—or 12—you’d love to see featured in the Nine Mile Creek Watershed District’s 2027 calendar?
 We’re accepting submissions through September 28 at 4 p.m.
And here’s the good news: your photo doesn’t have to be brand new. Photos taken within the past five years are eligible, as long as they were taken within the Nine Mile Creek Watershed District boundary.
So dig through your camera roll, find those favorite watershed moments, and send them our way!

Two juvenile Great Horned Owls sitting on a shoreline buffer on Wing lake. A shoreline buffer is a strip of native vegetation along the edge of the water. Deep-rooted native
plants help prevent erosion, filter pollutants, and keep excess nutrients out of the water, protecting water quality and supporting healthy ecosystems.

An important part of NMCWD’s Project Implementation Framework is the Project Public Hearing. This is an opportunity for the Board of Managers to hear and consider public input on a proposed project before making a decision.

Project Public Hearings are held during a Board of Managers meeting, and the public can participate in person or online.

The next Board meeting with a public hearing will focus on North Cornelia Lake Management and will be held: September 16 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

If you're participating in the Grate Drain Race, the most important part to remember is to log your cleanings! The more times you clean (and log it) the more entries you get into the prize raffles. You can log your cleanings on the same website you used to adopt your drain(s) in the first place, https://mn.adopt-a-drain.org/
Any cleanings or new drains adopted through November will automatically be a part of our competition.

Fall might be Minnesota’s most underrated season for planting native perennials, but there are tons of benefits to planting in fall:
-Cooler temperatures mean less watering and less weed pressure
-Soils are still warm, encouraging root growth before plants go into winter dormancy
-Many native plant nurseries refresh their plant stock for the fall planting season
Get tips for a successful fall planting in this @bluethumbmn blog post:

Join the battle to keep stormdrains clean in The 'Grate' Drain Race! From now through November, adopt a drain and clear the debris often to be entered to win a raffle prize. Two watersheds going head to head, who will win?

Maintenance is a key part of any project, whether it's a native garden, or permeable pavers like this project! Thanks to one of our cost-share grantees for sending in this photo of vacuuming out their pavers. This will help keep them draining properly.
