Late-season blooms like aster and turtlehead fuel the southward migration of Monarchs. Consider adding some fall flowering species to your garden this year! You can also check out the Monarch migration at Journey North: https://maps.journeynorth.org/maps

Getting ready for fall means adopting a drain! While you're at it, plan to rake the leaves out of the street too! This will help keep all those extra nutrients from washing down stormdrains into lakes and creeks.

Now that the weather is slightly cooler consider planting some native flowers this fall. Fall is often a better time for planting anyway because of cooler temperatures and more rain (let's hope we get some rain soon!)

The acorns are dropping at Discovery Point. We have many types of oaks, including Bur Oak, Red Oak, and the majestic White Oak in our backyard.
Acorns are an important source of winter food for squirrels; they may even become new trees if the squirrels forget where they buried them!🌰🐿️

Harmful algae blooms can happen even into the fall if there is hot, dry weather. Always check with your city or park for closures before swimming. As of late August, Lake Cornelia had blue-green algae counts exceeding the World Health Organization levels for moderate probability of adverse health effects. You can't always tell if a bloom is harmful just by looking, so when in doubt, stay out!
