Nine Mile Creek Calendar now available
with Photo Contest winners

Edina, Minn. - The Nine Mile Creek Watershed District’s 2003 Calendar and Annual Communication is now available, and you can receive a copy of it from your local city hall or by calling 763-557-5244. It features photos from the winners of the Photo Contest, held from April through September of 2002.  Winners include, Hugo and Karen Andersen of Eden Prairie, John Arthur of Hopkins, Richard Bastyr of Edina, Patrick Bellos of Coon Rapids, Norbert Marklin of Minneapolis, Kathryn Hodges of Bloomington, James. M. Peterson of Edina, Kathy J. Olson of Edina, Jeannette Taylor of Crystal, and Peg (“Meg”) Woellner of Minnetonka.

These winners represent all of the cities within the Watershed District except Richfield. The cities include most of Edina and Bloomington, and parts of Hopkins, Minnetonka, Eden Prairie and Richfield. Nine Mile Creek’s headwaters are in Hopkins, and Minnetonka, and the creek runs down to the Minnesota River and then to the Mississippi River. It is actually about 15 miles long, and it got its name from early Twin Cities’ settlers because it was nine miles up the Minnesota River from Fort Snelling. Maps, the Watershed District Plan and the annual report are available from the District Engineer at 952-832-2600.

“The Photo Contest and Calendar Project were a big success and this was the first time the Watershed District carried out such a project,” says Nine Mile Creek Watershed District President LuAnn Tolliver. People who were interested in participating in the Photo Contest were able to learn the geographical boundaries of the Watershed District, the lakes and cities within the Watershed District, and its mission –  to enhance water quality.
