Nine Mile Creek Photo Contest and
2005 Calendar are finished

Edina, Minn. – The very popular Nine Mile Creek calendars are back again, and limited numbers are available for free at the city halls and libraries of Bloomington, Eden Prairie, Edina, Hopkins, Minnetonka and Richfield. They are also available at the Bloomington Art Center, Minnetonka Center for the Arts, the Edina Art Center, Hopkins Center for the Arts, and the Richardson Nature Center in Bloomington – while supplies last. This is part of the Nine Mile Creek’s 2004 annual communication to the public, and it features photos from the winners of the 2004 Nine Mile Creek Photo Contest. Winners include Dianne and Dan Latham of Edina, John Arthur of Hopkins, Pamela Deerwood of Hopkins, Hugo Andersen of Eden Prairie, Anne Hosler of Edina, Michael Pluimer of Bloomington, Geoffrey Kuchera of Chanhassen, Dick Asinger of Bloomington, Jim Brun of Woodbury, Peg Woellner of Minnetonka, Kathryn Hodges of Bloomington, Robert Schwartzbauer of Edina, and Walter Ostrem of Minneapolis.

The Watershed District includes Edina, Bloomington, Hopkins, Minnetonka, Eden Prairie and Richfield. Nine Mile Creek’s headwaters are in Hopkins and Minnetonka, and the creek runs to the Minnesota River. It is actually about 15 miles long, and it got its name from early Twin Cities’ settlers because it was nine miles west of Fort Snelling when traveling on Old Shakopee Road. Maps and the annual report are available from the District Engineer at 952-832-2600.

"The photo contest and calendar project were such a big success the first time that we decided to carry out this project again," says Nine Mile Creek Watershed District President LuAnn Tolliver. People who participated in the contest were able to learn the geographical boundaries, the lakes and cities and the mission pf the District – to enhance water quality.
